At Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington’s Wellington School of Business and Government we offer the Master of Information Studies (MIS), a fully online postgraduate qualification in Information Studies (IST). The MIS helps you to become an expert in managing information in today’s fast-changing world.
You’ll learn about information services, storage, and retrieval, while gaining skills in management and communication, information technology, and research methods. You’ll gain a thorough, technology-focused, and research-based education in information organisation, oriented to the needs of New Zealand information professionals and national aims to improve digital literacy and inclusion.
You can choose to specialise in either Library Science (LIBS) or Archives and Records Management (ARCR) as part of the MIS programme. A MIS with an ARCR specialisation is recognised by Records and Information Management Professionals Australasia (RIMPA), indicating that a student with this qualification has the core body of knowledge required to work as a records manager in Australasia.
The MIS is taught entirely online and can be completed on a full-time or part-time basis, giving you the flexibility to study from anywhere in New Zealand, and to balance study with your other commitments.
Depending on your goals, you can opt for a shorter postgraduate IST qualification by doing the Postgraduate Certificate or Postgraduate Diploma in Information Studies. Courses completed as part of the Certificate or Diploma can count towards the full MIS programme if you decide to continue your studies.
