Each Australian jurisdiction has FOI/RTI legislation providing for information access rights. A universal government agency problem is how to deal with “vexatious” applicants. Such applicants can arise when they lodge multiple lengthy, frequent and complex access requests, right through to invariably challenging decisions at all available stages all the way to external review by a Tribunal, Commissioner or Ombudsman.
This session aims to provide a practical outline on options available to agencies and how to lawfully deal with such applicants in your jurisdiction at each of the various stages in the FOI/RTI process - from access request through to external review.
