In many breaches, the real damage isn’t caused by how attackers get in - it’s what they uncover once they’re inside. Across ageing systems, shared drives, scanned documents, and forgotten archives, sensitive data lies buried and unmanaged. This session explores the hidden risk of digital “ruins,” showing how unknown PII and PCI turn routine incidents into major breaches, and why reducing exposure now means uncovering and removing the data that should never have been kept.
Justin has spent over 15 years at the intersection of technology and information security, combining a lifelong fascination with systems with a strong commitment to helping people. His passion for technology began early, building his first computer from scratch at the age of 10, and has shaped a career focused on making technology both secure and practical.
He joined EzeScan in its early days as the “tech guy,” responsible for keeping systems running while completing his Bachelor of Information Technology. As both the organisation and the cyber threat landscape evolved, Justin transitioned into a development role, designing practical solutions that make customers’ jobs easier, while continuing to lead EzeScan’s IT and security function as Chief Information Security Officer.
A key contributor to EzeScan’s ISO 27001 certification, Justin understands firsthand the importance of strong security controls and the real‑world impact a cyber breach can have on an organisation. Combining deep technical expertise, product insight, and operational responsibility, he is a driving force behind EzeScan’s technology for discovering and remediating hidden sensitive information, helping organisations identify data risks before minor incidents become major breaches.
