Founder & Managing Director, Experience Matters
James is the Founder and Managing Director of Experience Matters and the Founder and Chair of Data Leaders, a global volunteer community that brings together some of the world's foremost experts in data, information and knowledge management.
A recognised thought leader in the field, James is the lead author of Information Asset Management, which explores why organisations should govern and manage their data, information and knowledge with the same discipline as their financial assets. He also co-authored Information Assets – An Executive Guide to the Untapped Driver of Business Success, a practical guide written by executives for executives.
James has made significant contributions to education and research, having designed, developed and delivered a postgraduate lecture series on Data Privacy, Governance and Quality for the Business School at the University of Adelaide. He also jointly leads several multinational research initiatives, including groundbreaking studies into the barriers to and benefits of managing data, information and knowledge as business assets, research described by Gartner as "groundbreaking." His work also focuses on developing a holistic organisational maturity model for governing Information Assets and quantifying the risks, costs, value and benefits of Information Assets to support investment in their governance and management. These research projects are proudly supported by the ARMA International Education Foundation, BDO, the Global Information Consortium and RIMPA Global.
An internationally recognised peer-reviewed author and keynote speaker, James regularly presents at leading business and academic conferences around the world. He is a Fellow of the Governance Institute of Australia, an Associate of RIMPA Global, and a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, DAMA Australia and the EDM Council. He has also served as a judge for the RIMPA Hackathon.

He is on several private company Boards and sits on the Board of Cure Brain Cancer, which was named by the AFR as the most Innovative Charity and the 25th most Innovative Organisation. He is also a co-founder of the Growth Capital Club.
