Reconsidering Maturity Metrics | Presented By Dr Seren Wendelken, Dr Gillian Oliver & Barbara Reed

9.30am – 9.55am AEDT, 22 October 2026 ‐ 25 mins

Stream 2 | The Carnegie Stage

This session raises for discussion whether there is a missing metric in the information and data maturity models that are used by organisations. It considers recent information scandals and what these show us about recordkeeping deficits in practice and systems design to ask the question, are we measuring the right things to ensure improvements in information and data management? In particular, we consider how information culture as a facet of recordkeeping informatics may serve as starting point for a more expansive and generous understanding of what information and data maturity means within organisations. We discuss why this shift in thinking about maturity is important and how it could support a positive shift in practice that recognises the transformative power of records. Most importantly, we propose why this should be measured.
