Ramifications of Ignoring Māori Data Governance | Presented By Dr Karaitiana Taiuru

10am – 10.30am NZST, 12 June 2025 ‐ 30 mins

Presented By Dr Karaitiana Taiuru

Using the Waitangi Tribunal report WAI 2252 on Māori data governance in relation to the TPPA, as a basis for the first part of my presentation, I will introduce and define Māori Data, introduce Māori Data Sovereignty principles and Māori Data governance frameworks.

Secondly, using a wide analysis of all of government data strategies, I discuss the need to have standards within both the public and private sectors in relation to Māori Data governance and highlight the current risks and possible future risks if standardisation is not implemented now within the Information Management community.
