Emerging technologies including artificial intelligence (AI) are increasingly a part of public services, with public sector entities adopting AI in their operations.
What does AI’s adoption and expanding use mean for public officials’ records management and governance of data obligations, and how can public officials ensure that AI is used transparently and with accountability?
This presentation will draw on audits undertaken by the Australian National Audit Office (ANAO) to discuss:
- Records management, governance of data and AI obligations that public officials have;
- The lessons that we can learn about record management and data governance good practice from past audits;
- The additional records management and data governance challenges posed by AI; and
Some of the AI governance good practices and challenges we have seen.
