With 127 years of operational history, Gold Corporation has accumulated a substantial volume of physical and digital records. To regain control of this legacy information, the organisation has embarked on a major archival appraisal and disposal program. This initiative encompasses close to 9,000 unsentenced boxes stored off‑site, as well as a significant volume of ephemeral digital records within the EDRMS. Early findings indicate that many records have surpassed their required retention periods.

To date, the project has already delivered considerable results including the secure destruction of more than 2,000 physical archive boxes and the disposal of approximately 3 million digital records that are no longer required for operational, legal, or historical purposes.  This case study will outline Gold Corporation’s retention and disposal journey to date, explaining how and why the project began and highlighting the benefits achieved so far.
