Managing the Information Security Risks of Procurement in WA Government

2024 WA Government Cyber Security Policy (the Policy) clause 3.4 requires WA government state entities captured its scope (Public Sector entities, Government Trading Enterprises and WA Universities) to consider information security risks when procuring any goods or services providing suppliers with access to digital information.

In these days of interconnectivity, information security risk is associated equally with non-ICT procurement as with ICT procurement.

Prior to entering into an agreement with a supplier to procure a product or a service, an entity must be confident that the Supplier and members of their supply chain (subcontractors) have the capability to protect WA Government information whilst providing the entity with the required product or service.

Yet this confidence is hard to achieve, as, in the evolving threat landscape, security requirements seem to grow ever stricter and more complex. Procurement risk assessment is time consuming, and it is difficult to be certain that all the risks have been addressed.

DGov Information Secure Procurement Framework and Information Security Risk Assessment Templates for any type of procurement are tools intended to provide WA Government procurement managers with that confidence. In this presentation you will hear about:

  • Office of Digital Government Information Secure Procurement Framework and Risk Assessment Templates
  • Access to a high-level 5-minute risk assessment tiering of your entity’s information and systems to determine your chief cyber security requirements
  • A systematic and structured way of identifying and mitigating potential information security threats that can arise from various types of procurement, whether ICT-related or not
  • Clear guidance on how to structure contract clauses to manage information security risks.
