Optus is set to face Federal Court action over its 2022 data breach, as the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has filed a case against the telecommunications company. The ACMA alleges that during the data breach between September 17 and 20, 2022, Optus failed to safeguard its customers' personal information from unauthorised access, which is a requirement under the Telecommunications (Interception and Access) Act 1979. The ACMA has confirmed the filing of proceedings but has stated that it will not be making any further comments while the matter is before the court.
