Telling Data Stories with Integrity

Selectively reporting only positive results or manipulating data to fit a preferred narrative can backfire and undermine confidence in leadership or decision-making.
Context matters just as much as the numbers. Ethical storytellers explain how data was collected, acknowledge limitations, and disclose adjustments like the removal of anomalies. This transparency turns raw data into meaningful insights and avoids misinterpretation.
Protecting privacy and addressing bias are also crucial. Anonymising data and seeking diverse perspectives help ensure stories are both respectful and inclusive. By upholding these ethical standards, organisations can foster trust and tell data stories that inform, empower, and honour the people behind the numbers.
