Course Overview

The BSB30120 Certificate III in Business (Records and Information Management) is a nationally recognised qualification that develops practical skills in business operations, communication, and foundational records and information management. These skills are relevant across many industries, including corporate organisations and government departments, where effective and contemporary records management practices are essential.

This qualification supports learners in developing the capabilities needed to contribute effectively in business, administrative, and records management environments. Learners strengthen their communication, teamwork, and critical thinking skills while also building awareness of wellbeing, inclusivity, sustainability, and workplace safety. The course promotes digital literacy through the practical use of technology for collaboration and secure information handling.

With a strong emphasis on records and information management, learners gain experience in organising, retrieving, controlling, and maintaining business records, supporting small projects, and ensuring data accuracy and compliance skills that are valuable in today’s records and information management settings.

Course Details

Duration: Learners typically complete the course within 12–18 months when studying part-time. You will, however, be provided a generous enrolment period of up to 24 months to support flexible progression through the program.

Delivery: Training is online, in a self-paced format through a Learning Management System.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal prerequisites for entry into this training program. However, prospective learners will be screened against the following criteria to ensure suitability and support successful participation:

  • Completion of Year 10 or an equivalent level of education or experience.
  • Basic computer and digital skills.
  • Sound Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) skills. Learners may be required to complete an LLN assessment as part of the enrolment process.
  • A Unique Student Identifier (USI).

Learners who do not initially meet LLN or digital skill requirements may still be able to enrol, provided the trainer endorses the enrolment and appropriate support strategies are implemented.

Assessment Methods

All learners will be assessed using a variety of methods designed to ensure they demonstrate the required skills and knowledge for the qualification. Assessment may include:

  • Observation – Practical activities such as role plays or demonstrations will be adapted for remote completion while maintaining the validity and reliability of the assessment.
  • Questioning – may include self-assessment, written questionnaires, activity modules, or interviews where applicable.
  • Structured Activities – may include projects, case studies, presentations, demonstrations, role plays, or progressive tasks
