IM BLOG: A reflection of my mentorship journey
I am celebrating a number of milestones, but perhaps more importantly, I am celebrating a journey of transformation. At the heart of that journey is being part of the KARMA Talent Development Programme, becoming part of the wider KARMA–RIMPA Global family, and attaining the Certified Expert Records and Information Manager (CXRIM) through the RIMPA Global Certification Program.
I wish words could fully capture the joy and gratitude I feel as being recognised as a certified expert through the KARMA Talent Development Programme is not simply a personal achievement; it is one of the nine stories of transformation represented through the programme. For me, it demonstrates what is possible when young professionals are given the opportunity, mentorship and support to develop their potential.
My selection into the programme came at a defining point in my journey, just after completing my undergraduate studies and becoming intentional about my professional direction. I wanted to work at the intersection of information, technology, organisational transformation. KARMA and RIMPA Global helped me pursue this ambition through training, workshops, webinars, one-on-one mentorship, peer learning, alongside conferences, all curated to strengthen my professional knowledge, skills and networks. These opportunities have broadened my understanding of Information Management, giving me greater clarity and confidence in the career path I had chosen.
Beyond the learning experience, the certification itself is built around four core modules carefully designed for IM professionals, providing a strong foundation in the principles and practices required in an evolving information environment. Whilst pursuing the certification alongside my professional responsibilities, I was challenged to translate what I was learning into practice. Rather than viewing the qualification as something separate from my work, I was able to leverage both my professional experience and the knowledge gained through the certification to create meaningful value in my workplace.
A particularly meaningful part of this journey has been the one-on-one mentorship I received from Director Adelle Ford of RKI Consulting whom am deeply grateful for her guidance, which challenged my thinking, broadened my professional perspective and encouraged me to grow with purpose. I believe excellence is rarely achieved in isolation; we learn by observing those who have mastered their craft, embracing the qualities that inspire us, and adapting them to develop our own unique professional character. Her mentorship has been more than guidance , it has been an important part of shaping the IM professional I am becoming. It has reinforced for me that professional growth is not simply about acquiring a qualification, but about developing the capacity to apply knowledge, contribute meaningfully, and continuously evolve.
Becoming RIMPA Global certified is therefore significant to me beyond the credential itself. It represents recognition of merit, but also, more importantly, recognition of a direction I have deliberately chosen and a commitment I have made to the IM profession. The journey has given me greater confidence to engage with the profession beyond my immediate environment and has contributed to opportunities to participate in global conversations and summits, including UN-WHS 2026, alongside professionals working at the intersection of IM and global health.
Looking ahead, I am proud that this Journey has become a foundation for what comes next. I am committed to continuing to provide value through my professional work while exploring the increasingly important intersection of RIM, AI, digital transformation, information governance and information security. I believe the future of IM will require professionals who can connect these disciplines and help organisations treat information not simply as something to manage, but as a strategic asset.
For me, transformation is equally personal. I believe it becomes truly meaningful when it touches every part of a young person’s life , their mind, their family, their community, and their sense of self. This is why I am immensely grateful to KARMA and RIMPA Global for creating a platform through which potential can be nurtured into tangible impact. I am equally grateful to the mentors, stakeholders and everyone who has contributed to this journey, it is your belief that sustains the work.
