To commemorate the occasion, the 2026 ARANZ Conference will be held in Te Whanganui-a-Tara | Wellington, bringing together archives and records professionals to reflect on the past, explore current challenges and consider the future of the profession.

This year's conference theme, Mā wai ēnei mahi, places people at the heart of archives and recordkeeping, recognising those who create, maintain and use records, as well as the communities whose stories and knowledge are preserved or remain missing from archival collections.

Guided by the whakataukī "He aha te mea nui o te ao? He tāngata. He tāngata. He tāngata" (What is the most important thing in the world? It is people. It is people. It is people), the conference will explore how archives can better represent diverse communities, honour cultural knowledge and strengthen connections between people and their documentary heritage.

As ARANZ celebrates five decades of advocacy and professional development, the conference offers an opportunity to reflect on the Association's achievements and consider how the profession can continue to evolve over the next 50 years.
