Australia has taken a major step toward shaping its digital future with the release of the National AI Plan, a cornerstone of the Future Made in Australia agenda. Announced on 2 December 2025, the plan outlines a national vision for harnessing artificial intelligence to build a fairer, stronger and more resilient Australia.

AI is rapidly transforming how Australians work, learn and access services. From reimagining business models to enhancing public sector delivery, its potential to lift productivity, strengthen competitiveness and boost national capability is significant. The challenge – and opportunity – lies in ensuring that every Australian benefits from these advancements.

The National AI Plan provides a coordinated pathway for government, industry, research and communities to move forward together. It sets the foundations for Australia to become both a developer and adopter of trusted, world-class AI technologies, creating an environment where investment and innovation can thrive.

Central to the plan is a clear national intent to:

  • Innovate with purpose

  • Grow with inclusion

  • Build capability that strengthens the economy and delivers public value

  • Ensure safety, security and trust in AI adoption

As AI continues to reshape the global landscape, this plan positions Australia to capture the opportunities ahead while protecting the wellbeing and rights of all Australians.
