Celebrating 50 Years of Archives: ASA Conference

The Australian Society of Archivists (ASA) marks its 50th anniversary with a landmark conference.

The conference exploring the theme of societal memory and the enduring role of archives. Archives are recognised globally as essential to democracy, community identity, and the protection of citizens’ rights. They safeguard collective memory while enriching knowledge and enhancing quality of life.

The conference will ask important questions: What has been the impact of archives over the past 50 years? How is this role changing, and how should it evolve into the future? Bringing together diverse perspectives, the program will showcase what archives mean to communities, institutions, and individuals, while mapping a shared vision for the sector.

Delegates will include professionals from across archives, records, and information management, representing government, cultural institutions, education, commercial enterprises, sporting bodies, and community organisations. In recognition of the need for flexibility, all in-person registrations will include on-demand access to selected sessions, with on-demand packages also available for those unable to attend.

The ASA continues to advocate for the profession and promote the value of archives across society. The ASA champions best practice and provides a strong, united voice for the sector.
