Connecting Across Continents: Kenyan Mentees Experience RIMPA Live

Distance could not stop our Kenyan mentees from being part of RIMPA Live 2026.

Thanks to the generosity of the RIMPA Global community, virtual registrations brought learning, inspiration and a connection to the global records and information management profession directly to our Kenyan colleagues.

While disappointing visa outcomes prevented the mentees from travelling to Australia, donor support helped create alternative opportunities. Funds supported virtual attendance at RIMPA Live for KTDP mentees and additional KARMA members, as well as registrations for  mentees to attend the KARMA Conference in Mombasa on 2 November 2026.

For Deborah Mburu, a mentee in the RIMPA-KARMA mentorship partnership, attending RIMPA Live virtually offered both practical learning and inspiration for her professional future.

A highlight was Dom Thurbon’s session on data, AI, people and the new information advantage. Deborah particularly valued the real-world examples and the message that AI readiness is an information governance responsibility.

“Being part of a global conference and hearing from experienced professionals made me aspire to be there one day,” Deborah shared.

Her learning is already shaping what she hopes to do next with her team: improve how they communicate about records, review their retention schedule and explore how AI can support their work. She also reflected on the value of clear, easy-to-understand records policies in supporting classification, access and retention, and reducing risk.

“As a mentee, this opportunity gave me professional development, a global network and the guidance which I would not otherwise have had. I am very grateful for your support.”

Deborah’s reflection shows the difference our community’s generosity can make - opening access to knowledge, encouraging professional growth and strengthening connections across borders.

To everyone who donated, thank you for helping our Kenyan colleagues be part of RIMPA Live 2026 and supporting the next steps in their professional journeys.
