Join the celebrations for International Access to Information Day 2026
Recognised by UNESCO, it is an official day highlighting the right of access to government-held information and how it empowers individuals and communities.
IAID recognises the importance of transparency, open government, social progress and informed decision-making in a democracy.
In Queensland, the 2026 IAID theme is Fact vs fake: Tackling information disorder in the digital age. It shines a light on the increasing dangers of misinformation, disinformation and malinformation (collectively defined as information disorder) in the digital sphere. IAID recognises your right to access government-held information and the public sector’s responsibility to release information, if it is in the public interest to do so.
Show your support for IAID 2026 by:
- Watching the free livestream of the Solomon Lecture on 28 September featuring a keynote by esteemed journalist and media freedom activist Professor Peter Greste, followed by a panel discussion.
- Downloading resources from the Office of the Information Commissioner Queensland to help raise awareness among your networks.
