Media Release - RIMPA's Response to Recent Integrity Issue in Queensland

RIMPA Welcomes Review to Improve Recordkeeping Across Queensland

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

QUEENSLAND, AUSTRALIA - The Records and Information Management Professionals Australasia (RIMPA) announced today that they welcome any review that leads to improved recordkeeping across Queensland.  The integrity issues raised in relation to the Queensland Government have highlighted the need for improved legislation regarding the creation and management of records and archives in order to keep pace with developments in information technology and ensure that expectations of the community are met.

The Government, it's Ministers and public servants play a crucial role in creating the memory of Queensland.  This includes the effective management of information and records in the light of digital technologies and the application of artificial intelligence which will become essential to the future accountability of government.

In the interest of maintaining the comprehensive body of Queensland knowledge, RIMPA supports a review of the:

  • Public Records Act 2002 to better align with changes in technology and societal needs.
  • Powers of the State Archivist to best provide rigorous, independent and open advice about recordkeeping practices in Queensland.

Thomas Kaufhold, Chair of the RIMPA Board, stated that, “RIMPA would welcome the opportunity to provide advice and support in any review undertaken”.
