MSRS auditors complete training as scheme prepares for pilot audit

The MSRS is being developed to provide a consistent, industry-led approach to auditor competence and the assessment of Management Systems for Records. Drawing on ISO 15489, ISO 30301 and ISO 30302, it recognises that credible records auditing requires both structured audit capability and specialist records and information management knowledge.

During the training, the auditors worked through the standards, proposed audit methodology, evidence-gathering requirements and the professional judgement needed to identify and evaluate records-specific risks. They also brought their own considerable professional experience to the process and provided valuable feedback about the competence framework and wider scheme.

That feedback has helped identify areas requiring greater clarity and will inform the continuing refinement of the scheme.

The auditors are now preparing to apply their learning through a pilot audit in a real organisational environment. This next phase will test how the methodology, supporting tools, reporting arrangements and governance processes operate in practice. The purpose of the pilot is not simply to confirm that the scheme works on paper. It is to identify what should be clarified, strengthened or refined before the scheme progresses further.
