New Digitisation Specification Released: PROS 25/02 S1

The Digitisation Specification – PROS 25/02 S1, released by PROV, replaces the now-expired PROS 19/05 S1. Agencies with digitisation projects already in progress under the previous specification are not required to adopt the new requirements mid-project.
Key updates in the new specification include the removal of the mandatory Certificate of Compliance. While agencies no longer need to submit this certificate, they must still prepare a Digitisation Plan—either as a standalone document or part of a broader project plan—which may be requested by PROV.
The revised specification places greater emphasis on quality control, enhanced detail in digitisation planning, and the usability of digitised content. Technical image requirements have been streamlined, focusing instead on ensuring that key content remains clear and readable. Agencies are encouraged to refer to recommended settings for various formats to ensure digitised records meet current and future access needs.
