Championing the theme "Privacy – it's everyone’s business." This annual campaign, led by the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) in collaboration with state and territory regulators and the Asia Pacific Privacy Authorities, aims to promote the importance of protecting personal information in all sectors.
Organisations are encouraged to sign up as PAW supporters to demonstrate their commitment to privacy and responsible data handling. Supporters gain access to campaign updates, promotional toolkits, and the opportunity to be listed as official participants. It's a practical way to embed privacy into business culture and promote community awareness.
Privacy in Australia is protected by both federal and state laws, with the Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) providing a framework for how personal information must be handled. The OAIC offers resources to help organisations and agencies strengthen their privacy practices—because respecting privacy isn’t just a legal obligation; it’s smart business.
