Progress on Girls’ Access to Education: What the New UNESCO Data Reveals
New UNESCO data reveals significant progress in girls' education globally since 2015, with 50 million more girls enrolled in school. Completion rates have also increased across primary to upper secondary levels. However, challenges persist, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa, where over half of out-of-school children are girls. UNESCO urges investments in safe, free, and quality education, gender-responsive frameworks, equal representation in curricula, well-trained female teachers, and addressing indirect costs. Post-COVID-19, efforts are focused on transformative leadership and a global platform to drive gender equality and empowerment in education.
