RIMPA Birthday Celebrations – Let the Fun Begin!!
RIMPA’s 50th birthday celebrations kicked off on August 14th with a cocktail party in Adelaide’s Mortlock Library – a wing of the State Library honouring pastoralist John Mortlock who left a significant legacy to the State Library.
Some 70 RIMPA SA members, industry professionals and vendors gathered to celebrate our birthday plus the centenary of State Records SA – the first government archive in Australia.
RIMPA SA was thrilled to have General Manager Anne Cornish travel from Brisbane to join them and to speak at the event. Anne spoke about RIMPA, times of change and connecting the State Branches and Helen Onopko provided a brief history of the RMAA early days.
Director of State Records Simon Froude emphasised in his address the importance of the relationship between SRSA and RIMPA and suggested that we have joint events more often. RMAA / RIMPA and State Records SA have always had a close relationship. On 1st October 1985, the Public Record Office of SA (PROSA) was established as a division of local government replacing the South Australian Archives which was a branch of the State Library. This significant separation of archival services and library services stimulated the records management profession within South Australian government administration and the relationship with PROSA / State Records and the SA Branch of RMAA/RIMPA was, and remains, strong.
Thanks were provided by SA Branch Council to SA RIMPA Director Bonita Kennedy and Helen Chadwick, Programs and Engagement Officer, SRSA, who managed and executed the event.
Anne and Simon jointly cut a special cake for the occasion, and although some people had departed, a group photo was also taken.
