RIMPA Live 2024 Wrap Up

RIMPA Live 2024 held in Adelaide was a huge success! With over 500 people in attendance, it was a great way to celebrate the records and information management industry!

Tuesday 3 September,  Day One and a change to the traditional format of RIMPA Live with members offered a dynamic lineup of presentations, starting with the Membership Engagement Committee, followed by the captivating session “An Introvert’s Guide to Thriving” from Wendy McLain.

The inaugural RIMPA Hackathon commenced with 8 teams of Hackers trying to solve the mystery question that keeps some of us up at night – How can we effectively value information as a strategic asset?

Some attendees opted for the Workshop Add-On and were treated to Lewis S Eisen’s transformative “Rethinking IG Policies,” while RIMPA’s partner DAMA provided an insightful workshop on Data Registers and Data Management Capability.

In the cutting-edge Next Gen Tech Lab, members experienced a unique silent-disco style series of presentations from industry leaders, including, Diamond Industry Partner Exedee, Platinum Industry Partner Compu-Stor as well as iSIGMA and iCognition making for an unforgettable experience!

The event officially kicked off with the EzeScan Welcome Reception, one of RIMPA’s Platinum Industry Partners. Delegates had the honour of being welcomed to country by the esteemed Jack Kanya Kudnuitya Buckskin. During the reception, several members were proudly recognised and rewarded with their well-deserved professional status, making it a memorable start to the event.

Along the banks of the Torrens River at sunset, the colourful collection of guests dressed in their Hawaiian best, were treated to networking, cocktails and tropical tunes whilst competing for the title of the longest wave ride on a mechanical surfboard and you will be pleased to know the RIMPA’s Chair of the Board in Bonita Kennedy was close to  producing the longest ride and proud to outdo some of our local and global partners.

Wednesday 4 SeptemberDay Two saw the day kicking off with a breakfast sponsored by Iron Mountain and presentation from their VP & General Manager ANZ, Paul Lamb.

The morning plenary session was filled with over 300 delegates while RIMPA presented their achievements for 2023/24 and keynote presentations from Stephanie Coleman (State Records of South Australia) and Keynote Andre Eikmeier talking about ‘Changing Culture for Good’,

For the third year in a row our conference was MC’d by Cam Sullings who both entertained us and made sure everything ran smoothly each day.

One of the highlights of the day was the trade vendors delivering a one-minute pitch during the last session of the morning known as ‘'Pitch Perfect’: Next Wave Showdown and it is recommended to take the time to watch the video of this session as we were entertained with jingles of self-composed lyrics, Tom Jones, Freddie Mercury, Raygun and much more.

Presentations continued throughout the day over four streams with keynote presentations by Australian Information Commissioner Elizabeth Tydd and our amazing OWL Group panel where they discussed the generational gap and tips on achieving success in your career.

Delegates received a global perspective with presentations from our ARMA counterparts on AI in Michael Haley and Michael Landau as well as Global Ambassador and Indian delegate in Pinakeen Shah.

The Next Gen Tech Lab had presentations from many of our vendors including industry partners EzeScan, Objective Grace Information and Fuji Film.

Delegates were fed well throughout the day with morning tea and lunch sponsored by Industry Partner RecordPoint.

After a massive day of learning and networking, delegates dressed up for the black-tie gala awards dinner, sponsored by Diamond Industry Partner Exedee. This is the industry’s night of nights with over 390 people in attendance to celebrate and award achievements by their peers for 2023/24.

Thursday 5 September, Day Three started early for some with a very appreciated Breakfast supplied by industry partner OpenText. The morning plenary session had presentations from Josephine Secis from the NAA followed by Keynote: Dr John Flackett, helping delegates bust those AI Myths.

Delegates were privileged to hear from Dr Aisha Bilkhair from the UAE who discussed the Oral History in the United Arab Emirates: Revealing Identity and Fostering Peaceful Coexistence proudly sponsored by Platinum Industry Partner Compu-Stor.

A stream on standards provided delegates with an insight into what RIMPA have planned in relation to the certification of IM Auditors, so watch out for more on this in the coming months.

In the Next Gen Tech Lab, delegates again had the opportunity to listen to vendors including industry partners Recordpoint, OpenText, Iron Mountain, AvePoint and Professional Advantage.

Thursday’s lunch, sponsored by Record Keeping Innovation, featured an unforgettable keynote by Chris Blowes, who captivated the audience with his incredible story of resilience after surviving a shark attack that left him as an above-knee amputee, casting doubt on his future.

The event concluded with a powerful global panel sponsored by Industry Partner Iron Mountain and facilitated by RIMPA’s Global Ambassador Stephen Clarke MRIM. The panel featured experts from across the world—Pinakeen Shah from India, Michael Haley from the US, Dr. Aisha Bilkhair from the UAE, and Cleophas Ambira from Kenya—who tackled the pressing IM challenges facing their regions and worked together to propose solutions.

Saying goodbye was bittersweet, as it’s always hard to leave the comfortable, supportive environment of peers where IM, RM, and data are the language of the day. Unlike in our daily lives, where these terms often require explanation, at RIMPA Live they were the common thread. However, the transition was made easier with closing drinks, generously sponsored by Doxlite. RIMPA Live 2024 was a resounding success, leaving delegates not only more knowledgeable but also proud to have expanded their professional networks.

Looking ahead, RIMPA Live 2025 will take place in Melbourne, with the largest membership base—next year’s event promises to be even more exciting, engaging, and informative. Dates and venue to be announced soon!
