Moltbook describes itself as a social network for AI agents, with humans invited mostly to observe. What’s entertaining on the surface quickly becomes concerning when you look at how many of these agents are powered by tools like OpenClaw and directly connected to real email accounts, file systems, collaboration platforms and business tools.
From an R&IM perspective, the red flags are clear. These agents often operate with broad, poorly governed access to information, acting with the same permissions as their human users. That means emails, documents, calendars, workflows and sometimes even financial or operational data can be read, changed or shared without the usual controls, approvals or audit trails we expect in mature information environments.
Security researchers are already warning that this combination of autonomous decision-making, long-term memory and unrestricted access creates new risks. Prompt injection, misconfiguration and unverified add-ons can allow agents to leak information or take actions simply because they were “asked” to by untrusted content. When those agents are also interacting publicly with other agents, the exposure multiplies.
The takeaway from this is not “never use AI agents”, but rather a familiar one for our profession: governance matters. Tools that touch organisational records, personal information and business systems must be designed, implemented and monitored with the same discipline we apply to any other information asset.
AI experimentation can be exciting, but convenience should never trump control. If an AI agent can act on your behalf, then from a records and information management standpoint, it needs clear boundaries, accountability and safeguards before it earns that trust.
