This presentation will dive into potential risks surrounding the implementation of body worn camera (BWC) use. For Logan City Council, BWC are used by frontline staff in the management of compliance matters however, there is no express legislative power that governs there use, unlike the express power provided for the Police Service.
As a result, in the first instance we are going to be governed by the Information Privacy Act 2009 because of the capture of personal information. Extending off this will be implications related to Human Rights and authorised persons powers, as described by the Local Government Act 2009.
This presentation will provide an overview of the interlinked legislation and tools available to assist in the management of risk associated with BWC.
